- Composition and Stretch: While traditional velvet can be silk or cotton, modern red crushed velvet is often a 100% Polyester blend, with many apparel versions including 10% Spandex to provide beneficial stretch for fitted clothing.
- Care Recommendations: To preserve the unique crushed nap, most synthetic varieties can be machine-washed cold on a delicate cycle, but the manufacturer’s instructions should be checked, and direct ironing is typically discouraged.
- Colour-Shifting Effect: The irregular texture causes light to scatter uniquely, meaning a deep red fabric may display varied, multi-tonal hues, sometimes showing hints of burgundy or crimson depending on the viewing angle.
